Questions & Answers About
Mayor-Elect Lee’s Transition Committee

Q:            How were Transition Committee members selected?

A:             Members have been invited specifically for their ability to help execute the Mayor-elect’s 100-Day Plan. The Mayor-elect issued invitations following consultation from Transition Committee co-chairs Keith Brown and Barbara Leslie, and Transition Director Danny Wan.

Q:            How often will the Committee meet?

A:             For efficiency, three meetings are currently anticipated to discuss execution of the 100-Day Plan. Each session will be co-chaired by Keith Brown, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO; and Oakland Port Commissioner Barbara Leslie, Executive Director of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

Q:            What about other policy areas not specifically addressed in the 100 Day Plan or reflected on the Committee itself?

A:             In addition to the Transition Committee, the following Groups will be convened:

Arts/Culture Working Group

Good Governance Working Group

Homelessness/Housing Working Group

Interfaith Advisory Council

Jobs/Economic Development Working Group

Labor Working Group

Large Employer Working Group

Public-Private Partnerships Working Group

Public Safety Working Group

Small Business Working Group

Tech Working Group

Youth Advisory Council

Q:            Will the Committee be involved in recruiting and considering Mayoral staff hires?

A:             The focus of the Committee is solely to execute on the 100-Day Plan proposed by Mayor-elect Lee.

We appreciate the eagerness and interest we’ve received from the community. And also, many people don’t know that nearly all government positions are hired through a civil service process, and these are austere budget times. The actual number hired directly by the Mayor’s Office is a very small number of positions.
